progress on the give-away postcard is happening despite my recent decrease in posts. i thought that i should show another peek of it since i haven't for a while. this fabric postcard will be given away in celebration of my 100th blog post. this post is my 89th, so it won't be much longer now and i'll be randomly selecting a winner (from those who have expressed an interest in winning it on any of the posts that i've featured/mentioned it on). i've most recently added some spikes of lavendar flowers to the floral stitched area of this card. lavendar is one of my favorites to embroider as i love doing the bullion stitch necessary to creating them. it's time consuming but has a lovely result. leave a comment if you are interested in winning this fabric postcard and i will make sure that your name gets in the drawing, which will be held immediately prior to my 101st post.

WOW your work is awesome.
ReplyDeletehow are the orange flowers done.
I also make fabric postcards but mine are more quilted ones.
you really do lovely work
thank you lej619 for your visit and nice comment~!~ the orange flowers are a combination of free crocheted flowers and some additional colonial knots. i was inspired by Connie/konnycards to give these a try and they were fun but hers are much prettier than mine~!~ i think that i have seen some of your wonderful cards . . . have a terrible memory sometimes but i'm pretty sure . . .may have even favorited them on flickr. i will do some checking and refresh my memory . . . it's always good to see fellow postcard/mailart artists~!!~and their work~!~

ack! that is just about the lovliest thing i have seen!! i too adore bullion stitch (it is my fave embroidery stitch) and think your lavender looks fantastic!!! such a pretty color for it too. i thought the french knots were pearls at first. i would love to give this a home in a frame on my puter desk
ReplyDeleteI just now found your blog when I followed the link from one of your Flickr photos, so I don't really deserve to win, but I wanted to say: This embroidery is absolutely gorgeous! I've seen similar work before, but never this close up. I'm going to have to practice those bullion knots so I might be able to do this in another decade or so!
ReplyDeletesusan: thank you. i was pleased with that color of thread too . . . but you should know that i often pull threads froms various skeins and mix them. if they are very close in color, i think it gives added depth to the work. for instance, on this piece i mostly used three strands of one color but there are a few areas where i used two strands of it with an added darker strand. this trick works really well in areas where you want a tiny bit of shadow or maybe you want the "newer growth" to appear a bit darker, etc. i have used variations on this to create some fun effects.
ReplyDeletethe french knots are actually colonial knots and i find them a bit neater in appearance and easier to make. they do look like little tiny pearls or beads and i probably overuse this stitch because i like it so much~!!
Tricia: thank you for your visit and you most certainly deserve to be part of the drawing as you did take the time to check out my blog. i hope that you found it to be an interesting diversion and will return frequently.
it sounds as though you do some embroidery yourself which only makes your compliments mean even more~!!~ thank you. bullion knots do take practice, but once you get the hang of them they are a bit addictive. keep trying, you'll find it worth the effort~!~
