slow sunday stitching

i'm stitching another set of prayer flags today. these are being made with thoughts and prayers for my mom who has recently lost her husband.

if you are interested in seeing what else is being slowly stitched today hop over to Kathy's Quilting for this weeks Slow Sunday Stitching event.

i've finished my doll size random sampler. you might even recognize some of the orphan blocks and bits of leftovers that i used from other projects. i partially deconstructed one block, added that bit of vine applique that you see on the left side and added a few extra leaves to blend the border into the center. other than that i didn't have to do anything but set it together and quilt it. i was very happy to find that bit of leftover primitive vine to add to this one. it's finished measurements are 19.5 x 15.5.
i think that this little quilt is going to be a gift but i'll soon be working on another random sampler;  to cover the fireplace during the months when it's not being used . . .
it's a fun format and a great way to use up some odds and ends that haven't found their way into any other project.
i'm amazed at how long it's taken me to get it done. i guess the garden has been getting most of my attention this summer.

  recent gifts include:
  • homemade watermelon "slushies"
  • several days to enjoy a visit from my wonderful daughter
  • an evening spent listening to local musicians

  3. Very pretty little quilt! The added leaves really bring it all together. Nicely done.
The idea of a little quilt to cover the fireplace during the not used season is a great idea.

  4. Sorry about you mom's loss. Isn't that quilt the most unique? A little of this ... a little of that ... The lil bird is just adorable! Reminds me of the strawberry thief!

    1. thank you Barbara, the little bird was part of a bigger pattern called "Homespun Nest" which i found within a back issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects Magazine. i'm not sure which issue but i do know that it was within the year 2011. i made a couple of the blocks and then set them aside not knowing exactly what they might be worked into.
btw i did not completely follow their instructions so have a slightly different result than within the printed pattern.
